A1 – Beginner Level (Start Deutsch 1)

Asking and answering personal questions (name, age, nationality, job, etc.)
Understanding simple conversations in shops, restaurants, or on the phone
Reading and writing short, simple texts (emails, postcards)
Basic grammar: verbs in present tense, articles, gender, singular/plural
A2 – Elementary Level (Start Deutsch 2)

Talking about family, daily routines, shopping, health, and hobbies
Understanding frequently used expressions related to immediate surrounding
Writing short texts like formal emails or personal letters
Making appointments, requesting services, giving directions
Grammar: separable verbs, past tense (Perfekt), modal verbs
B1 – Intermediate Level (Zertifikat Deutsch)

Expressing opinions on familiar topics like work, studies, travel, social media
Understanding the gist of TV/radio programs if spoken slowly
Writing structured personal or semi-formal letters, essays, or summaries
Participating in conversations on familiar and semi-technical topics
Grammar: subordinate clauses, prepositions with cases, passive voice, simple subjunctive (Konjunktiv II)
This is also the minimum level required for most visa/residency and Ausbildung programs
B2 – Upper Intermediate Level
